WRX Sound options????
I have been trying to put together ideas on how to approach upgrading the sounds in my 2003 WRX wagon.
Below are the 3 things I need to upgrade/add.
1. Head unit.
2. Speakers
3. Sub
What head unit looks the cleanest and sound the best?
Are single cd/mp3 players still the way to go?
I would like to put together the best yet afforable sound system for my car by the summer. To cold to worry about that now. But a plan is always good to have.

I would say a single din would be a lot more cost-effective..I will be putting in a Kenwood Z919 in my car tonight...that is an older deck, but I like it a lot...pioneer makes a great MP3 deck..so does alpine...as for the speakers, I really like the kenwood component systems..they sound great and they dont cost too much...and as for the subwoofer, depending on what you want there are a lot of options..I have 3 12" audiobahns in my car...most people want something a lot more light, and i'll assume you do also....I would go with a single 12" sub...Audiobahn makes a good sub, but my favorite is phoenix gold..they are a great company and make a great sub and their amps are great also..

I've got a JVC unit - KD-SH707. Only cost $225. Plays MP3 CDs, and the gap between songs is minimal. Best of all, it matches the stock WRX interior!
Also - found out today that JVC makes a 12 disc MP3 CD changer to accompany the unit....
13 CDs of mp3s.... mmmm.....
Sony has similar systems, but they do cost more, and they only have 6 disc MP3 CD changers, to my knowledge.
I'm using kenwood speakers all around. Excelon 6.5" ones up front and some normal 4" in the rear. (got the latter on sale at best buy, they cost $35, but are still a huge improvement over stock... they sounded better than the stock front speakers)

im using an alpine single din unit on both my cars. they have
that v-drive built-in amp and the quality of sound is pretty good.
what i like best about the alpine is the parametric bass EQ,
MX (loudness control 3 selectable), and the illumination color
choices they have. i have amber in my prelude to match my
amber cluster, and blue on my wrx to match my blue interior
lighting. looks great and sounds pretty good.
im just running the factory premium sound kit with the fronts
upgraded to kenwood excelon speakers.

4 channel alpine amp sounds great with speaker upgrade and it's a great price.
2 channel alpine amp that powers 3 JLw6
With this you need to dynomat the inside of your car cause it rattles if you don't.
You should get a alpine or sony head unit cause they sound great. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I have an alpine headunit and mono sub amp. Love them both...especially the headunit. Runs 60 watts per channel...as far as I know, it's the highest powered head unit. It sounds great...much better than sony and pioneer, of which I have had both. Speaker wise, there's not that many that actually fit into the wrx. I have rockford fosgates, but have already had to replace two of them (under warranty though) and still have to send another one in. I'm not too happy about fosgates. Though, sub wise, rockford fosgates are good. I tried to cut costs and got a kicker, but I should have gotten a different one. Good luck.
