I have an Passport 8500 mounted high on the windshield, I want to have the windows tinted but I'm not sure if this would decrease the effectiveness from a speed trap coming from behind, any thoughts?

 

So the tint will only reduce the laser detection? Cool I just installed the Z3 Laser shifter that mounts on the rear licecnse plate and 2 sensors in the front this should make the tinting not affect me at all right?

It will also reduce your detectors' sensitivity to radar. I've got the same detector. Didn't they send you the booklet? It tells you all about it.

 

the radar sensitivity will be fine because I have the Z3 Shifter which is mounted outside the car near the plates, I was more asking about how much will it reduce the radar X K Ka bands.

 

Yah, that's what I was saying. It will reduce sensitivity to X, K, and Ka bands. Lidar (laser) is simply an infrared signal, which is an electromagnetic signal just like other radar types, but at different frequencies. All of these will be affected by obstructions such as window tinting, fog, rain, rear view mirrors, etc.
