i really would like to add a set of rear deck speakers, but there is this little black box that sits in the hole of the right rear deck speaker cut out. does anyone know what this little electric box is so maybe i can move it?

 

I think it might have something to due with the antenna not sure I was trying to figure it out myself and thats the only thing I could think of...

 

if you have WRX, that black box under your rear deck is where they center seat belt spool resides.

 

Isn't it for the rear window defogger? I dunno either but it looks like it has wounded copper coils on the inside and it blocks the way of the passenger rear speaker opening.

 

That would make more sense that it might be something to do with the defogger I just have never seen anything like that so I wasn't thinking that but who knows....

 

yea wrx~god its that box that your talking about. so i guess you can probably move it so you can add a rear deck.

 

moving it doesn't look too much like a problem. But if you do let me know how the install looks like and what speaker you went with for that rear deck. I might want to try that route too.

 

It's definitely for the rear defroster, I just tested it with a multimeter and removed it

 

That black box in an 03' wrx is for the middle seat belt. I had to remove it for my sub box to fit in the trunk. Not hard to remove.
