Thoughts on Polk coaxials?

Hi eveyone,
I'm currently running some Pioneer 6.5" coaxials up front and Pioneer 4" coaxials in the rear. I'm running a JVC LH-2000 headunit and I'll be adding a small powered sub this weekend. I'm thinking about replacing the front speakers with a pair of Polk 6.5" coaxials (specifically the EX365 model). My Pioneer's simply sound extremely different when I turn up the power. The mids get mushy and the highs begint to sound harsh and tinny. I'm looking for good clear mids and highs and adequate bass. Since I'll be adding a sub, I won't need a ton of bass from my speakers. I have some Polk bookshelf and a Polk center channel speaker in my home theater and i love the way they sound. Do their car speakers have similar sound quality(obviously they will be different but are their characteristics somewhat close?) It looks like the mounting depth difference between my current Pioneers and the Polks is only 1/4" and I'm using a 1/2" spacer so I think I should be ok for clearing the window. Anyhow, any comments on Polk car speakers? I figure it won't be a big loss if I just eat the cost of the Pioneers. When I bought them I was just looking for cheap speakers so I could take advantage of Crutchfield's $50 when buying two sets of speakers and a headunit. The Pioneers were essentially free so I don't mind paying for speakers that won't exhibit the harshness they do. Thanks for any info.

The ex365 will need atleast 1/2" spacers to fit on your front door.
They have 2 1/16" mounting depth. You ok with that.

The sq will be better than your pioneers for sure.
If your gonna pay retail for them, $129.00. You might be better off with a focal 165 CA for $133 at http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/carau...y.asp?c=4&m=38

I got the 165 V components and i love them. I used a 3/4" mdo spacer to fit them.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do really I actually adjusted the eq on my headunit using some options I didn't know were there and I think I largely corrected the harshness of mids/highs at high volumes(I ended up doing an adjustment to the band or something as well as dropping the level of treble a few notches). Now I still get highs at low volumes that sound decent, and it doesn't seem to have that harshness at loud volumes. I think some of it may also be in the recordings I'm listening to, as when I play stuff that's very clean, I never notice it(even before adjusting the eq) while I do in others. Anyhow, I still may upgrade my front speakers at some point but atleast I've been able to improve the sound of my Pioneers. We'll see if it's enough of an improvement for me.

Well I went ahead and ordered the EX365s. I installed them yesterday. I was able to use my existing bracket/space(though I did have to drill new holes into the spacer as the pattern was different). they just barely clear the window but they fit no problem.
They sound absolutely amazing. The tweeter is awesome, and I think it's a combination of just being a quality driver and the ability to aim it. These things are probably the best coaxial speakers I've ever heard. They sound very close to the Polk bookshelf speakers I have in my bedroom, which is what I as going for.
Even just running off my JVC headunit, I am able to play them with the EQ set to flat and it sounds amazing. Also, my sub sounds clearer and louder now that I don't have the Pioneers putting out the slightly sludgy bass.
I'm a fan of Polk home speakers and now I'm a fan of their car equipment as well. Now the dilemna becomes should I replace my 4" Pioneers in back with some 4" Polks?Eh, who cares I can't hear them anyway from the driver's seat

Are those 6.5" Polks you put in the front? Just wondering.

As for the 4" in the back. I personally can't hear my 4" polks in the rear doors clearly unless I'm sitting back there with my head close to the floor.

Kuth,
Yeah they're 6.5" Polk EX365s. I still can't get over how close they sound to my $300 a pair Polk bookshelf home theater speakers. Definately a great set of speakers for $70.
Anyone want to buy some Pioneer 6.5"s real cheap?
