if i were you, ditch the rear speaker idea. unless you carry lots of passengers in the rear seats almost 100% of the time, the rear speakers tend to screw up the image for the fronts. people will say, "it's for a rear fill"...

i say, it will just drag the image back there.

face it, in the car stereo world, 2 channel is still the king. unless more and more multichannel software (sure there's DVD-audio and SACD but have you seen the players become the norm rather than the exception?), stereo is still the way to go...
you're right, two channels is still the gold standard in the hi-fi industry. however, it is my opinion that if you're gonna rip out the panels/decks/seats to install front speakers with the amp, you might as well run the wires and add in a set of rear speakers. assuming he goes with a flexible amp, he can just fade the rear speakers out so that it wouldn't affect the "imaging" component of an audiophile setup.

also, have you tried sitting in the backseat of a car w/out rear speakers on a 5 hour snowboard trip? do your guests/friends a favor and add in a decent set of coaxials UNLESS you're a total loner and never get to drive people around.

screw 'em... then they can drive their own car... lol...

listen, even dolby says that the rear channel should start to fall off around 4khz.

if you mount a full range speaker back there and dont do any delaying, the image will be dragged from the front.

sure you can fade, but then you are essentially wasting half of the speakers and amp.

if you go 2 channels up front and 1 channel for the sub, you can grow from there if you really want rear speaker.
