Recomendations for door speakers???
I want to replace the door speakers with some new seperates. I have a little over 100watts to each side. Can anyone recomend some high end seperates that are an easy fit for the window clearance? I much prefer soft dome tweaters.
Thanks,
Ash

Thanks. The fittment is the problem. WRX doors are way shallow. So a lot of speakers won't let the windows roll down all the way. I'm hoping to get an extra 1/2 to 3/4 inch out of a mounting plate off the door. But I'm not sure how much space there is before the speaker hit's the dorr panel.
Any experienced advice would really help.
Thanks again,
Ash

yea i had this problem
i made fairly large spacers for the front to fit my components in. honestly you wont find any descent good sounding component that is as flat as a stock wrx speaker.
just make the spacer and fit whatever u want in. mine was about 1 1/2 inches so really it depends on the speaker
its trial and error man just have a jigsaw and a sander handy.

well if that's an issue then kenwood excelons are pretty shallow, while they wouldn't be my first choice they aren't bad either. i had the same issue on my last car and the kenwoods fit w/o modification.

Thanks guys. Wow... You got 1 1/2 spacers plus the speakers and still didn't hit the door panel? That's more than enough. Fabrication isn't a problem. I just remember the last time I had the door panels off and decided to pull one of the speakers out to se what I was dealing with I was pretty shocked.
I'm going to go to a car audio shop today and do some listening.

Polk Momos are decent, but not that great. Plus, they're pretty deep. I had em and even with a spacer, it pushed out my door panel too far or without it, the window wouldnt roll down all the way. Try Focal K2Ps. What's your budget though??

Budget isn't that sensitive. My ears are. I used to install competition systems. I've been out for a long time. I'm looking between $150 and $300. And again... I really preffer soft dome tweeters. I went to two places today and both of the displays sucked. I only got to hear co-ax's.
Hmm, 300. You can get some Diamond Audio s600a or s600s which are pretty decent, but they run around 300-350.
I heard some Boston Pro60s and those were awesome. However, those run about 500.
One of the best component sets I've heard are the CDT eurosports, but those run about 800ish lol.

I also second the Diamond Audio speakers, as well as the Bostons. I would also recomend checking out ARC Audio systems. They are German manufactured(Dont worry, they arent Quarts), sound great, and have sets that run between 200-ish and 400 or so. They *will* clear your windows with a 1" spacer, and will not bump against the door pannels. I was runing a set of Diamond s600s' but recently switched up to ARC ACS-265's. The ARC Kar series are also pretty awesome, they do use a silk dome tweet, and they can be had for between 180-200 if you are looking for the 265 series 6.5 inch.
Hope this helps,

I like the diamonds too (2 1/8" depth). Used to use them in my GMC jimmy and had them in my saab for a couple weeks til i stepped up to some CDT eurosports. I'll sell ya the pair of the diamonds for 250 + shipping if you want (the s600s with silk dome tweet). I just had them installed in my saab 9-2x with spacers and they fit easily. I think the doors are very similar so it shouldn't be a problem. I have references (from car audio boards, i'm new here) and can take all the pictures/videos you want, the only thing is they are at home and i'm at my a couple hours away right now for my job, i'm going back next week though. If your interested email me, jhubbard@purdue.edu.

Diamond Audio HEX and MB Quartz Premium should be on your list to audition. I've heard good things about Focal and the high end Boston Acoustics.
If you're on a budget, you should give Eclipse components a try too.
