parts for installin HU...
i want to install my alpine CDA-9827 deck into the dash of my wrx.. i have the harness, now what exactly is needed to sucessfully install this deck into the dash...
You need the adapter harness, which you have, and a DIN pocket to fill the space that will be left when you replace the dual-DIN stock unit with your single-DIN Alpine. That's about it. You don't need any brackets, you'll re-use the existing one from the factory HU.
Nope, it's an "ISO-DIN" setup. When you remove the factory HU there are brackets attached to the sides, you take those brackets off and mount the new HU and pocket to them. No additional ones needed. Also note that if the new unit has the plastic trim ring attached to the front it has to be removed before you install the unit, the ring is only used for the sleeve-type DIN install and not the ISO-DIN.
You have a couple of options for the pocket. You can get a "universal" one at a stereo store, or an OEM one from Subaru. The OEM one will cost more of course. If you go OEM you can get the Legacy one that has a flip-down cover.
When I bought my Alpine from Crutchfield they included the pocket along with the harness at no charge, but that won't help you since you've already bought the unit.

I don't have exact prices, but a universal pocket should be in the $5-10 range. The Legacy pocket w/door is probably around $15-20. Just educated guesses. I know the part # for the Subaru pocket has been posted but it was a while ago. You can search the Car Stereo forum on NASIOC, it's definitely there somewhere, may be here too.
hey mulder:
i have my stereo and my harness but did you have to hook up any speaker wires to the harness or you just use the adapter harness that plugs into the subie harness and then connects to the HU?
My aftermarket harness (adapter) came with a bunch of extra wires saying left front, right front, speakers...etc.
i'm not getting any sound? any suggestions?
