sup folks,

i went to dealer and they asking ~$500 to install (parts & labor) for 2002 fog lights.

i think thats crazy

was think is it possible i could do it myself?

and is it worth getting the fog lights or a waste of money

those of you whos had it in the winter season (snow), and summer (heavy rains). does it help with visability?

i would get some hella 500s and install them. Super easy, and give way better light then the stockers.
make sure you get the fog patter ones.
I have used my amber ones in heavy fog, snow, rain, with no issues, jsut better visability.

see, heres me with the hella 500s (amber) and my stock headlights.

 

I'd install some fogs or driving lights on my own. The money you save will allow you to buy better lights. Fogs usually have a flatter projection pattern than driving lights. Color choice for fog lights (yellow or white) is up to the driver. I have driven in heavy tule fog every winter for longer than I care to remember. Fog lights help a lot if they are aimed right, but the color really doesn't matter... I've used both amber and white. Lots of color variants are possible, as is light output. PIAA whites (for example) tend to have a nice purple-ish tint when lit up next to the stock headlights. Any color tint usually costs you some light output. Make sure you wire correctly for the amp draw of your lighting circuit (measured to the lights and back again) and use the right wire connectors. I'm not sure if you will have to plug in a lighting relay to the engine bay fusebox, but you will need to have a fuse and a good-looking switch to go into one of those empty switch bays inside the car.
