immobilizer vs security system
i was talking to a buddy of mine who works for an auto insurance company and he said that immobilizers (the chip in the key) are better and cheaper than getting an expensive security system that can possibly fail.
Anybody get immobilizers for their WRX?

installing an aftermarket immobiliser is as useful as securing your vehicle with The Club.
Why? OEM Transponder keys are typically tied into the vehicle's ECU to prevent the fuel system from operating.
Aftermarket immobilisers are typically installed on the starter wire. For a manual transmission this is totally worthless since you can push start this type of vehicle.
Your best bet is to have good insurance and a decent alarm. You may wish to install a totally hidden kill switch wired to either the fuel pump relay and/or the main relay.

How likely is it going to be for someone to steal your car by pushstarting it though? I know for me, living in a city I highly doubt anybody could get away with pushstarting your car away. You should get one of those things that latch onto the pedals of the car. I have had two roomates with them and even though their cars have gotten broke into before neither of them have gotten them jacked. They are a camry and a 300zx, so they are likely to be stolen. Just for reference, my buddies corolla sitting 1 car down from my roomates camry on the same street got stollen and he didnt have that pedal thing in his. I wonder if they saw it and just went for the next toyota?
