How good is the stock security system on STi?
Question 1: Is it really useless as some people commented? I see a lot a people on this Board are getting a good after market security system because they don't trust the stock system at all.
It seems a lot of STi comes with the stock security system. Question 2: Do you need to disassemble the stock then put in the new system or the new system can be sort of add on?
Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

talking about security system is my thing...
any security that employs a 'starter kill' is useless in a
manual transmission. all you need to do pop out the
ignition switch and a screwdriver. turn the ignition
on and off 3 times to shut off the subaru security
system.
this will only work as long as the grey wire off the
Subaru Security Upgrade wire harness is intact. if the
wire is cut for the Turbo Timer install then you can't
use the ignition switch to turn off the alarm.
now, the best approach to protecting a manual vehicle
is to install a toggle switch on the main ground relay
or a relay that interrupts the ignition wire or the fuel
pump relay. if installed properly, the vehicle will not
move too far due to the residual fuel / fuel pressure
on the fuel lines.
