Alarm systems
What's going on people...
I need some suggestions for alarm systems for around $400 to $500 max including remote start.
i've been looking at the DEI viper 790xv
and the Audiovox Prestige APS-995c
both have the lcd display keychain with multi channel and remote start.

Re: Alarm systems
i have the viper 790xv unit, but haven't installed it yet. it's essentially a viper 550esp alarm/remote start but with the 'responder' technology. remote is pretty slick, external remote starter power relays for easy replacement etc.
my only gripe with the dei remote starters is that if you were to trigger the alarm, ie. opening the door while armed the remote start sequence continues to run while the siren is blaring. clifford g4 solaris will immediately shut down the remote start sequence if the alarm is triggered.
i've stumped so many Viper installers on how to turn off the remote start sequence when the alarm is triggered, the only way to do this is to buy a device to count the parking light pulse outputs. Once the trigger counts the specific number of pulses in 5 seconds, it can pulse out to the Hood Pin or Brake Wire etc to shut down the remote start.
Clifford has the RS3 with 2 remotes, I believe the Python comes with the LCD Remote and 1 non-LCD Remote. The Viper 790xv only comes with 1 LCD Remote, you would have to spend more money to get an additional remote, $80 - $100 for a spare one.
i'm not familiar with the other brands of lcd remote starters though, can't help you there...

I sell both and I wouldn't normally distinguish between the two, but the audiovox comes with two remotes, and has a lot cooler features on the remote. you can tell the temperature in you car from it, someone in the car can page your remote by hitting the valet button, you can use it as an alarm clock, it uses indiglo to light the diplay, there are a ton other small things that make it really cool.

yeah i've definitely been looking at the audiovox prestige alarm system. it does look like its more stable from what i've heard. plus its bout $50 cheaper. i'm thinking about doing the install myself but i heard on the subarus its kinda hard.
plus i want the remote start hook up on my 5sp, one wire to hook up from what i heard.
the install at circuit city is bout 4 hrs, $80 to put it on.

well, I work for circuit, and if they are installing it, they shouldn't be. as far as I know it is company policy not to install a remote start into a 5speed. mainly for the fact that if you leave it in gear and you start it, it gonna jump forward. if there happens to be a wall in front of the car, then the wall and the car will become one.
but yes it is just a wire to get it to work, if you want to make sure its safe, there is a part you can order from japan that will allow you vehicle to start only when its in neutral. not sure of the price though.

Just found out that the on my buddy did had the inverter problem. he ended up using a 12volt dc to dc converter. I'd think it woul be a simple little peice, but he said he spent like 200 bucks on it. I'm not really sure what it entails, but he said it runs sweet now.

i used to have compustar
u can check it here ......
www.compustar.org
it's a nice alarm w/ lcd
for the 2WFM, get the white remote color, that's the official one ..... other color than white like blue .... it's a prototype from mexico
it's more a failed product for sale
and the 2WSS, get the black color remote
sounds complicated, but a lot of replica for the lcd alarm

I have a viper 550esp (without remote start) and I love it. I did a bunch of research and found out that viper is by far the best. I've spent around 600 with mine (a bunch of different options/add-ons)...and yes, it's withouth a remote start...but without all the options it was around 400. Whatever you do...make sure you get it installed somehwere good.
