Adding a stereo system...
Alright so i want to add a lot of "oomph" to my car... i have upgraded the door speakers to pioneers and i want to add two more speakers on the back seat panel below the window...
Also i would like to drop 2 10" subs in it... i have been looking around and found a lot... i know brands of speakers and what is good and not... but what i would like to know is what should i do about the subs and amp...
i have been told that my subs should have a higher peak wattage than the amp so that i don't blow my subs... so how would i do that... or what do i need... i have a 1200 watt amp for the 6 speakers i have(well 4... i don't have the back two in yet)...

seems like what you have been told is to make sure the subs you buy can handle the power you are going to feed them. example: 400w peak handling sub + 300w peak amp = good. imo, you can still feed a higher rated amp into a lower rated speaker so long as you don't turn the gain on your amp all the way up. the key is to buy quality subs and a quality amp and don't play your system like you're at a stadium concert.

yeah... well the thought of having a higher rated sub is better makes perfect sense to me... have less to put to the subs so you don't blow the sub... i would think it is harder to blow the amp than the sub... but thats just how i think... i can probably be proven wrong on that...

the best thing to do is match rms of the amp to the rms of the subs that way the amp will not over power the subs, most people look at the max watts the subs can handle and thats it. lets say you amp outputs 500rmsx2 then you subs need to handle 500rms each that way you are getting the most out of the amp as well as the subs and you sould never blow them.
