I would've used something other than foam. or have made an insulating blanket to go over the foam at least... IIRC, it is a special spray-on foam so it is pretty brittle.

Look above.. That was one of my ideas. Either that or a carbon fiber shield of some sort. Composites usually conduct heat worse than metals so in order to retain the heat in those lines (if they are indeed carrying liquids), I'd rather use carbon fiber. But you need some detailed thermal analysis to properly cement which material to use... A thick blanket such as a fabric blanket insulator might work just as well. It just needs to be secured so THAT doesn't fly off.

Foam gives better coverage than blankets on lines. Even with blankets wrapping around the lines themselves.

Insulation-wise, its perfectly fine.

Strength wise, not too much better than foam. The tiles on the Space shuttle are ceramic and those just broke easily when they blasted that foam brick at it. Assuming that the ceramic is going to be the same used as on the tiles on the belly.. It takes longer to design, implement, produce and install compared to a blanket. In addition, they'd have to either bond or bolt the ceramic in place. Bonding would be a better choice, but has to be periodically checked to make sure that the bond integrity isn't fading. Bolting would have to require extensive stress analysis to make sure the ceramic doesn't crush or fracture at a certain bolt preload.
