What is your internet connection?
Alot of people that are complaining about connection issues/errors seem to have a slow connection. You shoudn'e be playing online unless you have atleast 3Mb internet. It seems alot of people think you can play with 1.5Mb which is not true. I've played at a friends house who had that and experienced alot of problems myself.

its yuor fire wall settings. you need to open 5093 and 5094 UDP for your ps3.
also you need to let me know what type of NAT connect yuo are getting in the internet connection settings test.

here ruben configure your router http://portforward.com/english/route...on_Network.htm
edit. the default login and password on the netgears should be
l: admin
p: password
to access your router 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
you need to figure out which IP your ps3 i assigned. look for the "attached devices" menu.
port fowarding you should maybe open up all of these for PSN
# 80 TCP
# 10070-10080 Both (TCP/UDP)
# 6000-7000 UDP
# 50000-50000 UDP
# 3658 UDP
# 5093-5094 UDP (for cod4)

I have timewarner cable for internet service. The wireless doesn't work for ****, hooking my ps3 to the router with a network cable somewhat works. It allows me to get on the playstation network and send/receive messages, but doesn't allow me to join in a game with people. At this point I'm ready introduce the router and my ps3 to a hammer

Let me have it!

hehe, with PC servers, I'm sure I could do quite a bit...I think that's the reason I've refrained from purchasing the PC version, too much room for someone to hack...
ok I've tried what Ed posted up and this ****'n piece of **** still doesn't ****'n work!!!!
Ed, I also get a NAT 3
if anybody wants to come to my house and try to fix it, I'll buy them lunch if they get it working

you hvae to open up all those ports i listed. voice chat among other things doesn't work when you're NAT3 so you will keep on getting booted.
if you're still having problems assign DMZ to your PS3, or connect it directly to your modem.
NAT3 = limited connectivity
NAT2 = connected to a router
NAT1 = connected directly to modem
