The XTi is worth it over the XT for many reasons, aside from the additional megapixels. First off, the new LCD > the old LCD. Some people complain about the sensor turning on/off at unwanted times (the sensor detects when your face or another object and turns the LCD off), but overall, a superior (and bigger) screen. Second, if not for the LCD and higher megapixel, for the lens self cleaning sensor unit. The 9-point autofocus pwns all. Overall, just a better, nicer camera - IF you can afford it. The price drop on the XT's since the XTi's came out is pretty substantial though, and in my opinion, the XT is still a great camera.
Anyway, it's more about the glass than the body. I have a 400D (the EDM/JDM model of the XTi), the kit lens, and the 50mm 1.4.
