Well at my work, I carry an At&t phone as well. I compared the internet speed between the At&t and T-mobile. I would have to say that At&t is double the speed of T-mobile. When comparing it to a co-workers sprint phone, her's is triple the speed of T-mobile.
With 1000 minutes a month, with no mobile to mobile, would you use up your minutes? If no then roll over is pointless for you.
Text messaging plans are pretty much the same, but it seems you are more text dependent. There is no real incentive for texting unless its unlimited. If there was a texting plan that was free mobile service to mobile service, I would say stick with T-mobile because majority of your friends have that service. Too bad there isn't.
For my 2 plans I have with T-mobile all with data, unlimited text and 500 minutes, my cell phone bill on average is $100 a month. So lets just say its $50 per person. Does that fit your budget?
Keep in mind when you go to a smart phone, it would be pointless for you not to run all the options. So getting unlimited text, data plan with no cap is a must.

i spend about 100 bucks for a family plan with 3 lines 550mins, rollover and unlimited internet w 200 text on my phone. My question is do you mind if you don't have reception in certain areas?

however the problem is that
on att plans works like this
Personal
450mins w5000min nights and weekends with rollover = 39.99 +35 bucks for unlimited data/text + tax ~85
t-mobile is cheaper
Family with two lines
550mins w unlimited nights/weekends with rollover =59.99 (1st line) +9.99(2nd line) + 35 unlimited data/text + tax ~115ish
i still believe t-mobile is cheaper

Yeah I checked both T-mob, and ATT, the ATT route would be like 52.99 just for the features, on top of the regular phone plan..
I called T-mobile and I told them what I wanted, and they told me something like, around 60-70 (if forgot the exact amount) a month for unlimited blackberry data (so thats email and web), unlimited text (which i think is where instant messages falls under), and like the regular phone plan thats like 39.99 a month which is 600 mins/free nights and weekends.
I did forget to ask if that was with free mobile to mobile, but then even if it wasn't, i mobile to mobile is like 5.99 a month addtional. Then theres the "My Favs" thing with tmobile which is unlimited to the 5 people you set that you call the most..
Either way, I'm paying like 70 bucks now for my sidekick plan which includes everything. I figured we don't really talk on the phone much. I mean our little group mostly communicates via text and IM. We don't seem to yab on the phone much with each other like women with crap like "oh I bought these shoes today, and these matching panties, yadda yadda yadda".. our conversations are usually on IM, or in person. The only times we really talk on the phone is to coordinate outtings or give each other directions or something.
So yeah, that what I was thinking. I'll definately have to call t-mob again and confirm all this

why is your **** so cheap? if you're using the t-mob family plan, and you mean 500x2=1000 minutes, thats already 70$ for the plan alone. unl data is $30/line, blackberry is $30/line, unl. text is $20 for all phones under the family plan. I pay $160 for 3 lines, 1000 min, 1 blackberry, 1 data, +$10 3rd line. your **** is like $40 cheaper, how???
