This is off topic, but diesel and hybrids are still short term solutions. What we need are new and nearly inexhaustible energy sources (i.e., Hydrogen fuel cells).

Oh yeah, definitely desperation.
Mergers are not a good idea on the way down GM, this is NOT a smart move. Going to be huge downsizing...

We're buying up some Ford stocks...
...if they tank, we're only out a couple hundred bucks, but if they import the European cars like they have planned in the near future, then I could potentially see their stock rising...

hmm... risky. I dunno. Ford is trying, but what of GM? I mean, wow, they are trying to MERGE right now!?
The best part is that the two companies "discussing" a merger, are both companies that will not make it past the first half of summer 09 at their current rate. It's like...Titanic...but instead of a gay actor, and a chick who shows us her **** n vag, it's two large auto manufacturers. "Let's go down together GM!" "OK CHRYSLER! I WUB J00!"

That is the mentality that killed this company - "Bigger is better."
They are in so much trouble that they pay their vendors in 60 days instead of the normal 30 days from date of invoice.
Which is what kills me - they think that a merger with Chrysler would SAVE them? Hardly. Merging with another floundering auto company is just going to add to the debt, factories, dealerships, models and employees.
Something tells me the era of American Cars is over and done.
