man, the Prius is a piece of **** car that does nothing to help us. Its expensive, and that battery only lasts a decade. Tell me, what happens to it after its discharged completely and they have to replace it, OUT OF WARRANTY!?
It's a hyrid subcompact... but unless it's like less than $16k it ain't no economy car!

So, yeah, the battery situation sucks, but 10 years from now when a prius needs a new battery system, it will be fairly cheap, and better than what went in there. We just need to keep hashing out technology and money to R&D for all this.
Thing is this: bottom line, the best hit to foreign oil or just gas prices is to use less. Simply USE LESS. If people would just DUMP their ****ing SUVs for a minivan, that'd be massive improvement.
I see that trucks will still have their place for their utilities, but if we convert all trucks and cars into some sort of hybrid, even just the simplest electric assist hybrids like the current prius, then we'd be increase millage by a lot. We all have to do our part, every one of us.

I cannot stand the Prius for a few reasons - but the most prominent being that when you do replace that Li-Ion battery do you know where it goes?
Gets throw in a dump where it takes ~2,000 years to decompose and leak into the water table.
Oh, and the Prius's life expectancy is about 100,000 miles...something to think about...

But you can't say that Li-Ion batteries are going to be found in dumps. We don't do that now with lead acid, we aren't going to do so with these either. They are too big to dump into the dumpster, we'll have recycling locations for them.
I'm not worried about that so much. I am a believer in Diesel, and gas cars that are fuel efficient. They have them in Europe, and we can have them here too if we can just push for them.
I mean, i'd buy a yaris or fit if it came with a diesel hybrid motor. Or even better the electric cars that have small tiny generators that all they do is an alternator to charge up the batteries. Those get stupid MPG numbers, and have ranges in excess of 600miles on just 8 gallons of gas. If that were a diesel motor, it'd be even higher!
yes ford has good cars in europe i posted that way early in this thread deisel is the way to go for now but it wont last forever
MB has the blue air scrubber thing thaty they were letting other companies use
trains have a deisel generator and are driven by electrical motors GE is into those
