At the time it was made Subaru didn't have a manual transmission that could handle the power of the SVX engine. They were in such a rush to release their first luxury sports car they said screw it, but it is fairly interchangable with the STi 6speed and others with minor welding

 

yea we want to do a manual swap sometime, but probably not too soon. It involves some modification and a decent amount of parts to be swapped out, but I think the car would be way more fun. Its fun as is though.
I've actually been told you can use most 5spd trannies as well which is good. keep costs down
