Dan, she's probably not using it because it's longer than the other one when she walks. It's probably weirder for her to try to gimp around on it than to just be a tripod for a while. When the cast comes off, I imagine she'll go back to normal.

Emma is not as tough as Maddie, but she needs to start using the leg - it is part of the recovery.

Hopefully after a few days she will get used to it and start to use it. She will put it down when she is standing still but al other times, it is up off of the ground...

That is one of Maddie's post op xrays, you can see where the bone was cut, rotated and bolted back in place. Once that heals she can return to active duty...

Emma's was an accute injury that could have happened to any dog, we think she took a hit to the side of her leg when she was up on her back legs only. We did not see the collision happen, but we heard it, but based on the way the two dogs would play and the type of injury, we think this is what happened...
