73k miles. Happens at its own speed and isn't synced with the rpms. It's either there or not. Only audible in residential and in parking lots. Once above 3k it's gone.

I've searched and everything I have found is rod knock problems. And it doesn't sound like rod knock.

The car always made this noise. Years back when you brought it to me for stage1, then stage2, and still now.

-Tune is solid. Very conservative. Zero recorded knock, no matter what load is applied. Numerous logs, numerous checkups, etc all show perfect health. AFR is dialed in perfectly. Boost is low (for the setup).
-The engine is in good health, just did compression test a few weeks ago, less then 3% variation between cylinders. Plugs looked perfect. No leaks, and everything nice and clean.
-All new exhaust gaskets: header, up, dp, exhaust, etc.
-All maint done on time.

This car ticks just like every other subaru, just a TINY bit louder at EXACTLY that RPM range. Before that its fine, and after that its fine. Idle is fine.

So yeah........Figure that one out

PS: we never opened it up (for obvious reasons) but valve/lifter tick is probably a fair guess

I'm totally confident the engines health is perfectly fine, thanks to vladi being an awesome
Tuner. I'm just curious as to what it is. It's one of those things other people most likely wouldn't notice, but something that drives me nuts!!!

Trust me I am. I'm not freaked out. Just felt like making a thread to see if it was something common or not that's all. Defiantly isn't holding me back from doing a couple pulls on my way to work

I'm kinda curious: did it get louder after the switch to Rotella?

Forget it. It was driving me nuts too, but now don't really care about it.
I'm not gonna tear my engine apart til it will start knocking like a "real" rod knock.

people, you just have to experience rod knock to know what it really does/is

until then, just drive your car...
