sql is a database application developed by microsoft. asp is a microsoft thing too - active server pages. it's pretty much their answer to cgi.

cgi and asp allow you to have dynamic pages, meaning they can change to match a users needs or to process data.
There are plenty of free linux implementations of SQL available out there, so being SQL doesn't guarantee that you'll be using MS products. SQL can interact with everything, even perl. Though it is much easier to have SQL running through PHP (regardless of platform). ASP is a little easier, but only if you us MsSQL.

yeah, but through godaddy, if you go windows you get asp/sql and linux is perl/cgi.

GoDaddy combined with FileZilla is very nice. Now I just need to start rebuilding my website. I donwloaded the DreamweaverMX free trial, but I need some time to figure it all out.

Personally, I would pay the same rate as what the bandwidth/storage/etc. would cost from other reputable sources.
