Web hosting?
What's a good site that I can host pics and video from? I don't mind paying by the year, as long as it's not to much.
I use www.aplushosting.com . They have been pretty good to me, no problems to report.
And I have unlimited bandwidth

linux = perl/cgi capability
windows = sql and asp capability
I imagine either would work with php.

perl/cgi are programming languages. Actually, perl is the language, cgi is the method of using perl for the web.
sql is a database application developed by microsoft. asp is a microsoft thing too - active server pages. it's pretty much their answer to cgi.
cgi and asp allow you to have dynamic pages, meaning they can change to match a users needs or to process data.

Thank you for choosing GoDaddy.com as your Web hosting provider! Your hosting account is now active and ready for you to upload your Web site pages to your FTP directory. This FAQ provides instructions for transferring files to your FTP directory. If you have any questions or comments about these instructions, please call us at (480) 505-8877.
FTP Account Information
Your FTP account information is required to transfer files to your hosting account. Please note that the Hosting/FTP user name and password provided here are NOT the same as your customer account user name and password.
FTP User Name: your_username
FTP Password: your_password
Web Site URL: http://www.yourdomain.com
FTP Site URL: ftp://www.yourdomain.com
Your Web Site Visitor Statistics: http://www.yourdomain.com/stats
Whether all the pages of your Web site are done or only one page is done, you can transfer the pages to your FTP directory now to see how they look on the Internet.
All transfers are done by uploading the files to your hosting account. We suggest either of the following two methods of transferring files:
* Microsoft Internet Explorer
* File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Utility WS_FTP
Using Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer allows you to transfer files directly to your FTP site without requiring an FTP utility. For step-by-step instructions, go to the Uploading with Internet Explorer tutorial.
1. Open Windows Explorer to the folder that contains your Web site pages. Leave open as you will come back to this window.
Establish an Internet connection, and then open Internet Explorer.
2. In the Internet Explorer Address Bar, type your FTP Site URL. Start by typing "ftp://", followed by your domain name (for example, ftp://www.yourdomain.com).
3. In the Log On As dialog box, enter your FTP user name and password, and then click Log On. If an FTP Folder Error dialog box appears, click OK, and then click Login As in the File menu to open the Log On As dialog box.
4. Select the files to transfer in Windows Explorer and drag them to your FTP directory in Internet Explorer. You can also copy and paste the necessary files.
Using WS_FTP File Transfer Protocol Utility
WS_FTP offers a full range of file transfer features that let you transfer files directly to your FTP directory. To download WS_FTP Utility go to www.wsftp.com. For step-by-step instructions, go to the Uploading with File Transfer Protocol Utility tutorial.
1. Establish an Internet connection, and then open WS_FTP and click Connect.
2. In the Session Properties dialog box, click New.
3. Complete your profile. In the Profile Name text box, enter a profile name, for example My Profile; in the Host Name/Address text box, type your domain name (without the www.), for example yourdomain.com; ignore the Host Type text box; in the User ID and Password text boxes, enter your FTP user name and password.
4. Click OK.
5. In the WS_FTP window, navigate to your Web site files in the Local System pane on the left side of the window.
6. Double-click the file to transfer or select multiple files and click the transfer arrow located between the Local System and Remote Site panes.
7. Click Exit and close the program.
