I agree with sonicsuby, dont do anything stupid and the cop wont pull you over and look under the hood. If you do get pulled over, be polite, do what he asks, and try to keep him busy. Ask him to explain what the ticket hes writing is for and whatnot, dont give him any time to go "hmm...I wonder if I should check under the hood."
newyorkreload- as to your question about cops knowing what all cars post-75 look like. no, they do not have them all memorized. However, depending on where you live, and how many cars there are just like yours, cops will know what is definitely aftermarket (like if you drive a mustang, I think every cop knows what they look like stock).
All in all I think your ticket to freedom is to lay low, if you want to be big, fast, and flashy, you might ask well pull up behind a cop, get out, knock on his window, and give him a written invite to look under your hood
By the way, does anyone know if the smell a catless car produces is enough "probable cause" to look under the hood?
