The best way to avoid trouble from the police is to keep your car and your driving low key.

No big wings. No HUGE, loud exhaust tips. No aftermarket blue headlights. No neons. Minimal graphics. Don't drive like an ***, don't boom your stereo loud enough for the next county to hear you.

If you do get stopped, be nice to the cop. "Yes, sir", "No, sir", "Thank you, sir". Even if the cop is being a dick, it's a good way to try and keep out of trouble. If you're a dick, they'll look for things to get you on, if you're cool, you run a better chance of them citing you and sending you on your way.

If you do mod your car, try to reduce noice, no big shiny exhaust tips (I'll probably flat black mine when I get it on), no 2F2F graphics on your car, etc. A lot of people on here run modded cars, heavily modded, and have no trouble from the police.

You forgot:
don't wear your baseball cap backwards.
speak english and not ghetto street racer speak when the oficer approaches the car.
don't say "nice rack" if the cop is a woman.

I think I'll bring up a few things I learned while in my criminal justice class...

Maybe even ask them how the hiring process works for their organization. Put my 6 years of military protocol to use. Make em sound like i'm instrested in joining their team. Even ask if my ticket will hamper getting hired.

Then again... I could just try to avoid getting pulled over to begin with.

I have a silver pass. It's a badge. Works wonders. #1 piece of advice from and ex-"cop" is this: Don't act suspicious. When you see a cop, don't slam on your brakes to do 5 under the limit. I've passed cops in my riced out civic and my WRX (Blitz NUR Spec/catless set-up blaring) doing a little over the limit and I've never gotten a second look. Just be natural. Cops know that no one does the speed limit all the time. So don't act like you do.

Don't tell an officer no when he asks to search you (if you don't have anything illegal of course) unless you're prepared to sit on the curb for an hour or two while he takes his sweet *** time getting a warrant. He's got nothing better to do, unless you're very lucky and his shift is almost up. Most of them will do it just because it's annoying when some punk kid (that's you) decides he's gonna teach an officer a lesson.

If your clean it's an even better reason to do it.

I don't think I can fit in the "punk kid" group anymore, grey hair's not a sign of youth last I checked.

Why? He doesn't "lose" if he doesn't find anything. All you get out of it is a lot more of your time wasted. Personally, all I care about is getting it over with, and if I get a retarded citation, then I'll go to court and make a fool of the officer there.

I'm 35, but still like to thumb my nose at authority...except RC51Pilot.
He can't take his "sweet *** time" in getting a warrant.

I'm surprised this hasn't been said yet:

In Nevada, pretty much anything goes. Lots of people run cat-less, and even if they're registered in one of the two counties that require smog checks, they usually pass since it's a simple OBD-II plug in chug test... no sniffer!

NV > CA.
