When General Motors began developing the new Cadillac CTS-V, GM Chairman Bob Lutz promised that it would ‘suck the doors off the BMW M5’. And if the hot-rod sedan’s 556 horsepower V8 wasn’t enough to convince you of this, we know have some hard data to back that claim up.
Edmunds managed to get some time behind the wheel of the all-new CTS-V at GM’s Milford Proving Grounds, and, thankfully, remembered to bring along all of their testing gear.
The results were phenomenal. The sprint to 60 took just 4.6 seconds while the CTS-V passed the quarter-mile mark in just 12.5 seconds – besting both the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 by .2 seconds.
The CTS-V’s brakes were equally impressive, slowing the sedan down from 60 in a mere 109 feet – 5 and 6 feet better, respectively, than the M5 and E63.
And although American automobiles usually fall short of their European counterparts in the handling department, the CTS-V didn’t let the Stars and Stripes down. The Caddy managed to pull .92g on the skid pad and its 71.1 mph slalom run bested both the M5 (68.5 mph) and the E63 (65 mph).
All in all, the CTS-V’s performance numbers are quite impressive. However, with BMW reportedly developing a turbocharged version of its M5, we’re quite sure we haven’t heard the last in the super sedan wars.
Leftlane has already spent some time behind the wheel of the CTS-V and while we won’t break GM’s press embargo with our opinions, we will strongly recommend you check back here on Sept. 24 for our full review of Cadillac’s highly-anticipated M5 slayer.
