my insurance company guarantees chip/crack repairs if you go to one of their recommended shops. the guarantee means that if it gets worse after the extremely cheap repair job, they'll eat the cost on replacement.

I think it's where you're at Nick... I used to get a bunch of chips when I lived in Sac. The whole front of my car looked sandblasted. In the bay area, no problems. Having a clear bra helps too.
I got a huge rock chip on my windshield going to Thunderhill last time but I quickly got it patched and no problems.
