Tint test

Hey all,

Other than getting pulled over, is there a place anyone can recommend where to check the tint level on a car? We are going to ship the car out to Malaysia where it looks like have strict laws about tint and the car cannot have tint levels darker than 50%.

If anyone knows, what is the level of tint on cars coming out of the factory like the ones on xBs or SUVs. We're hoping it's only 50% but we have to make sure or the car gets stuck in customs.

If you got the car tinted here than I would bet it is well under 50% tint.
Most factory tint is 20% on cars, rear windows on SUV's and trucks get down to 5% sometimes. Most aftermarket tint is 25%, 15% or 5%

Yup, we did. It was actually on the car upon purchase. I want to make sure we are on the same page on levels.

The lower the number the darker the tint, correct? I've been hearing opposite and I wasn to be absolutely sure.

Thanks again!

Yea, so most likely you have 20% on the windows from the factory if they are tinted.

Having been to Malaysia a few times this year and talked to coworkers about importing vehicles, the tint may be the least of your probs when importing a car there...hopefully you have all of the other considerations already worked out. Good luck, hope it goes smoothly!

Thanks all. Yeah, very stringent. We were just going to go ahead and buy a different car to ship but it's cheaper and safer to bring a car we know the condition of so we do not run into issues.

Thanks again!

tint is measured in VLT (visible light transmission) which is just the amount of light allowed through.

for a point of reference, factory glass is about 75%VLT

Factory polarized windows are about 75% VLT, but most factory tint is about 20%. The polarized windows are not tinted, the glass is made with the coating on it, not applied later like tint.
