Police Say Puppy Shot Man Trying To Kill Dogs
Three Puppies Found In Shallow Grave

POSTED: 6:45 am EDT September 9, 2004
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Deputies say a man in Pensacola, Fla., who was trying to shoot seven puppies was shot by one of the dogs.

The man was holding two of the shepherd-mix puppies when one of them wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the man's .38-caliber revolver, making it discharge.

Escambia County deputies say 37-year-old Jerry Bradford was shot in the wrist and was treated at an undisclosed hospital. To top it off, the sheriff's office issued an arrest warrant charging Bradford with felony animal cruelty.

He said he was shooting the 3-month-old pups because he couldn't find another home for them.

Three of the puppies were found in a shallow grave behind his house, the other seven were taken by animal control, which intends for them to be adopted.

i don't understand why it's somehow better to let an animal shelter kill animals, but in any case it's a shame that the guy didn't spay his dog...

gun stupidity is always funny. go puppies

There are no-kill shelters. Plus, even at a normal shelter, puppies have the best chance of being adopted. Plus, there's being put to sleep peacefully, if it comes to that, instead of being shot in the @#%@# head.

I'm a realist, but I'll also hurt anybody who knowingly hurts a defenseless animal for something other than food use.
Rabid dog? Put it down. Hit a cat accidentally while driving? These things happen. Raise cattle and chickens for food? I understand.

Not owning up to your responsibility of spaying your own animal when there's shelters that do it for next to nothing, then cruelly dispatching new, living, things brought into the world due to your mistakes? I say too bad the gun didn't hit higher.
