A dealer sold you a car with burned-out brake lights? Shame on them, that should have been caught in used car recon, and should have been corrected before releasing the car to you. Being that brake lights are considered a critical safety item, tell them that you'll fix the lights yourself, and that they can eat the difference in sales tax.

I called the CA Board of Equalization and the customer rep told me "Yes they can ask you to pay the tax" To which I reply, "But does that mean I'm legally bound to pay the tax"...His response "Ummmm...Yes"
Doesn't sound like a sure answer to me.

Yeah I just went ahead and fixed the lights myself because I'll never get the bulbs in the mail from them like they told me.
