Funny... we didn't need to expand drilling when gas was cheap. So claiming high gas prices are the result of not driling is a fallacy.

refining capacity hurts more than anything else, domestic drilling really only helps take away the political power of OPEC against us

im all for pipelines in alaska.. people say that it will destroy the wildlife and disturb their habitats.. well from a few studies it shows that caribou actually try to stay close to the pipelines in deep winter because of the oil flowing through the pipes keeps them warmer.

It's all a conspiracy. Our cars run on water with gasoline aroma added. They are charging us $4.00/gallon for water... oh wait...

So, you're the type that buy the Global Warming hype....nice.

BTW, I don't understand the support for the gov't to increase the cost the gasoline, when gov'ts the cause of the problem.

It's just like when birds get used to eating food fed to them by people at outdoor cafes, and then can't survive in the wild if the people go away! BRILLIANT!

currently 70% of US electricity is produced by... burning fossil fuels. just because you pay an extra $6/month to sleep better at night doesn't mean that all electricity generated is by renewable resources. as long as this country is dependant on gasoline, diesel will always be plentiful as it is a byproduct of the refining process.

also, we have all electric light rail for in place already... adding a second system thats diesel powered for one strech is retarded when compared to using the trains we already have (not to mention the requisite repair facility's and spare parts.
most cities already have vehicles from different manufacturers. sacramento, for example, has two or three different types of cars. spare parts and maintenence wouldn't be a problem as the facilities are already set up to deal with differences.

that'd be like saying "ok, lets replace the BART red line with diesel trains."
BART currently uses 1000v DC via a third rail. that is far less efficient than a more modern 750v AC overhead wire. so since something better has come along, maybe they should replace that?

as i said earlier, the efficiency from light rail comes from regenerative braking. it's pretty similar to what hybrid cars use. that works great when the train stops every city block or so. for a non stop stretch it's not as efficient. the cost of electrified rail is super expensive compared to standard rail. it's the substations and catenary wires that cost a ton.
