got off easy?

hate to have to think about it that way, but I guess you're right.

could have had a major brake or suspension failure on the highway or blown an engine. Even the parts to fix may not be too bad. Might even get away w/ just the cost of some grease, brake fluid and turning 1 front rotor.
Still, not fun or fair.

Potentially eating the $700 already spent on tuning AND having to buy an accessport is not making me happy, though. My engine mods were standard and pretty tame so perhaps I'm overreacting. There are posts in other threads about a number of highly modded engines that were toasted after a bad tune by Nate, though.

As an old teacher of mine used to say: Are stupid or is it that you just don't care?

thanks again, all.
Nate used to be the only person I would let modify my car. I never had any complaints from his work. I let Joe and his crew work on my Legacy turbo. The first time I went to pick it up he couldn't get it to run without stalling (it ran ok when I brought it in). The second time I tried to pick it up, the inner fender fell out which he insisted it wasn't his fault and the car was still stalling. He eventually managed to fix it I guess, the car still idles like ****. He was more than fair on his pricing though. I'm sorry for what happend to you, but it definitely sounds like Joe's fault not Nates. Hope things work out for you.

Yes. He (Joe) was quite fair and, I believe, honest.

I never had the impression he was "pushing" anything or doing any kind of other "funny stuff" sometimes done by mechanics. It's just frustrating that there are mechanical problems that appear (I have said all along, except for the brake lines- which are obviously screwed up, that I still don't really know what the problems are) to be due to errors/omissions by the mechanic turning the wrenches.

that's all I've tried to say.
I also want others to go in w/ open eyes. I was told that "Nate is the BEST tuner" and that S-Squared a/k/a Subaru Specialists a/k/a Joe's A&S was a great shop. The reality is they are probably not (for mods, at least) [nor do they want to be anymore, PER Joe- probably for good reason, since modded cars and the people like me who mod them are often a PITA] That just ended up not appearing to be the case, but of course, hindsight is 20/20. Because of my somewhat unique situation (i.e., the car being shipped to Hawaii where there is little/no access to experienced shops/mechanics or parts) it just seems worse.

I'm hoping that doing the work myself: changing the brake lines, turning the rotor, greasing the PSRS mount- will solve the problems. The ECU issue (IF there is an issue) is potentially more serious and certainly more expensive to solve...

I think open, honest discussion is reasonable and I have never tried to be inflammatory or hystrionic about any of this. In fact, Joe called me a few hours ago to talk about it (I was just running out the door and haven't been able to call back, yet). We had already talked about it last week. I ddon't think there is much he can do to resolve it b/c of the geographical limitations, but I give him credit for at least "trying" to be supportive. Should he pay for repairing the mistakes? I don't know. I still can't be sure (except for brake lines) that he MADE any mistakes- I just want to get the car running safely...The comment that my coilovers (x4) were set 1" TALLER than the "max height" settings (stated in the TEIN manual, a copy of which was provided) is just a statement of fact.

aloha,
norm

"*****, BE COOL!" Is more like Josie talking to Matt than vice versa.
