Radar detector?
A while back, Bell (I think it was Bell) flirted with a 'cop detector' that picked up the police radio band signal and could determine its strength (for proximity to the car since all the cars are their own repeaters). I remember the review said it was sort of spotty, but I never heard of anything more on it.

I'll take all of the information I can get to determine the proper course of action.
Mashing on the brake is not always the best.
Oohhh look Ka gaining strength with rear arrow. Must be behind and approaching. Sometimes you need to know that there is a bad guy sneaking up behind you. Then it's time to select a better gear and/or lane position to cloak yourself and avoid drawing attention to yourself.
Hey, theres something strong coming towards me on the other side of the divided highway. No big deal.
Meanwhile the 'experts' are just getting a signal and wasting time scanning the mirrors and ahead.
**** off. Arrowless ********.

Cost of V1 = ~$400.
$$ kept by avoiding ticket = ~$400.
-$400 + $400 = $0.

Oh, well maybe that's the difference. The speeding tickets I've gotten here in NV are only like $100 bucks.
2 tickets < the cost of a decent radar detector.
Even if you factor in raised insurance premiums, then its still at about the break even point. Maybe I'm down about $100 over the cost of a V1 by now. Also, I find the little buggers severely irritating. 3 years worth of not having to deal with false positives every 100 yards is worth the $100. I borrowed my friend's V1 for a road trip once, and I wanted to stab out my own ears after hearing it beep so god damn often.
Some times quality of life trumps financial responsibility.
Oh, and that's pretty much the reasoning I use when I say they are a waste in the first place
