its doesnt disengage the center diff and make it RWD.
what it does do is stop the center diff from doing any electronic lock up. cause the dial to the rear is more of a "preference" setting than a complete unlock. while pulling the ebrake to one click will stop it from doing any lock up at all.
so you still have a 65/35 torque split. its just that it acts as an open diff, so once you overload the rear tires, which is easy to do, then guess where all the power goes? allowing you to do the burnouts, etc.
you cant do that on a 06 STI as it has a mechanical lock up in the center diff that cannot be completely defeated. so doing the burnouts in a 06 STI = bye bye center diff.
and incase you guys didnt know, the "lock" option on the dial doesnt split the torque 50/50. what it does do is make the fronts and rear move at the same rate (no slippage) so it can be 100/0 or 0/100 and anywhere in between depending on what axel has traction.
