And they should go on all four wheels. If that's not an option, they should go on the fronts.

Oh, and use cables, not chains.

My understanding was that at the point in weather where Suby's would require chains/cables then the freeway would be closed.

This is true in California and in most states.

But, sometimes you can have borderline R2 conditions (2wd requires chains, AWD/4WD okay with snow tires) when you enter the checkpoint, but after a few minutes it escalates up to R3 (AWD needs chains), and even though they shut the road down, you are stuck in between.

If that happens and you get stuck, then you'd need the chains.

Do they go on the fornts of STis too? I thought....wait..... I just figured it out. STi normally has more rear bias but when in teh snowz0rz you would have the DCCD set 50/50 so then it would be just like any other suby. Might as well put them up front to aid in steering right... Is that the correct thinking?

As I understand it yes. Subaru's are either FWD biased or 50/50. The auto-DCCD 6MT being the exception, but I've heard to set it 50/50 and treat it like a normal Subaru.

Why not just set it to 0/100 RWD biased and put the chains on the front? It works for Mustangs why wouldn't it work for Suby's?

Cause it's impossible to set the DCCD at 0/100.

Otherwise, you'd be on to something.
