I'd live downtown if I were single. There's a lot of new nightlife down there, parks, restaurants, etc. Folsom and El Dorado Hills are also nice, and have more access to outdoors type stuff if you're interested. I also like the Natomas area but it's similar to Roseville and more geared towards families, IMO.

edit: If you're working in Folsom, Rancho Cordova or Downtown, DO NOT live in Roseville. The traffic sucks.

+1

lots of cool places to live downtown, but it varies by neighborhood. Rancho Cambodia likewise has some nice areas. Also look at Fair Oaks/Orangevale areas if you need more garage / yard space. there's deals to be had out there and the houses/apartments/townhouses tend to be on the larger side

this is possibly the most help I've gotten when going to a new place (I travel a lot).

You guys rule. I sure do miss the subie community.

Welcome!

Everything said has been good advice! I myself live in Citrus Heights, its about 20mins (with no traffic) from Sac and about 7-10mins from Roseville.

Im sure you will like the area. Not sure if I missed it or not, but where are you moving from?

if you are more specific about your housing needs we can probably pinpoint some specific areas. river/park access (have dogs? bikes?), garage space (3 car garages are only found in certain areas), bedrooms, etc.

What area are you actually working in? Don't have to name the place, but the region will help us find you something easier. Assuming a garage is a requirement, or do you not really care?

Welcome, btw.

Welcome. Bring the snowboard, there is always one late snow in late March/early April. It may not be Tahoe's best snow that far into spring, but you'll kick yourself if you don't have it.

I'm moving from Abu Dhabi.

I will be by myself. No pets. Just me, my car, and whatever fits in my car. I would definitely like a garage with the apartment. I would like a 1 bedroom, but a nice studio will work too (not because of price. I just don't need anything bigger). As long as it is in the Sacramento area, I don't mind. I would just like a nice, safe area to stay in.

I am honestly shocked at the response and assistance.

The commute distance doesn't matter to me so much. As long as it is a nice area. Some of the people I work with live in Roseville and commute into Sac.

trust me, the commute definitely does matter... its not the distaces its the time involved. unless you have 2 hours to kill each way to work than you can totally screw up by picking the wrong area... sac can have kind of a ****ty layout. i come to work 2 hours earlier than i need to each day just to beat that ****.

any specific price range you are looking at? there are some good places downtown that have gated parking but not garages. garages in downtown are harder to come by and are usually tiny and crappy.

in the burbs studios are less common, you will usually find 2-1 and 2-2 apartments with gated parking or 2-1 and 3-2 townhomes with garages. just about anywhere you go you can find something that works but prices and availability varies greatly.
