I mean, even going to Sac State, for a B.S in Business, it's already cost ~$5000 with books and stuff, and I've got at least 3 years to go, so I'm looking at another $5000 - $6000 easy
It sucks because Sac State considers > 6 units as full time, so that's where the price jump is, but I can only take 9 or 10 units/semester given my schedule, so I end up paying an additional $500 for one class each semester. It's not all bad though, if I get a C or better, the company pays for it (not books or parking, that's out of my pocket).
RussB- Thanks for the insight. I am kind of in a transitional period where I've decided that I don't want to stay in the air force, and I want to get a mechanical engineering degree, but I don't know where I want to go. I have a whole lot of things to figure out.

Josh, another option is my old school, UC Davis. It has the best MAME (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Materials Engineering) department in Kalifornia. You can specialize in different areas within ME, including automotive engineering. I got to work on some fun projects (Supermileage vehicle and hyrbid electric vehicle) and even got to drive on the CHP test track (
). Of course, not wanting to move to Detroit, I abandoned the automotive thing and the rest is history.

I'd love to go into the automotive field, but I'm leaning more towards materials technology. The Automotive field is so competitive.
In all actuality, I'd like to be an engineer in the british sense of the word, someone who does the designing, fabrication, and assembly. I like to get my hands dirty.
I'll have to look into UCD, but I'm leaning towards getting out of CA. Unless I find a steady job and a place to live, I have a hard time seeing myself staying in CA.

6 months. I'll be a resident next fall. The reason it's more expensive to go to CC in other states is that CA (used to) subsidize most of the tution fees. If the school really had to operate on an average of $50/student per class, how good would your education be?
