Looking to move to Sac. Any suggestions???
Hey everyone. I am looking to move to sac but I am not sure of what areas to look at. If you have any suggestions on where to look, and for that matter where not to look, I would like to hear it.
As of now I am looking for a house that I can put a lot of sweat equity into and is in an older established neighborhood.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keegan

I like the Natomas area but there really aren't any "established" neighborhoods over here - most of the neighborhoods around here are 2-4 years old.
How much money are you looking to spend, what size house, etc..That will really tell you where you can live.

I am looking for a house that has 2+ bedrooms, and 1+bathrooms. Square footage about 1100+ for the house and it needs to have a garage. The price range I am looking for is an asking price of 350k and under. So I can work the seller for a better deal.
Some of the key aspects to the more established neighborhoods I am looking for are large trees, and telephone pools (showing they were built 30+ years ago).
Thanks.

Before you look at areas to live, figure out where you are going to work. Commutes can be hell around here - especially if you have to cross the river. FWIW I used to live in Citrus Heights (lower middle class area) and work in West Sacramento (straight up ghetto) - about 20 miles each way on the commute but there were days it would take damn near an hour to get from A to B.
Now that we moved to Carmichael I have a 12 mile each way commute and it takes me between 15 and 25 minutes depending on th day. If I had to go anywhere over the highway 50 side of town, it would probably be less painful to be butt raped by a rusty running chainsaw with a slight misfire than it would be to commute that way. The same would be true if I lived off of 50 and had to commute to the 80 side of town.
If you commute in non standard hours you should have an easy commute no matter where you live - traffic seems to be mostly off and on around here...

You should give my wife a call as she's a realtor.
I am a mortgage broker so I can help with the financing if/when the time comes. I have helped quite a few people on I-club before. We tend to take care our own here, so...
Unless of course you have a broker in mind. Regardless, she can at least send you an email on available houses in the area (based on your criteria) just to give you something to chew on without obligation. PM me if you'd like to do that.

i have been looking for a while on my own but it's hard to get a good idea about the neighborhoods out there over the net and looking at the mls postings. then main purpose of this thread is to get ideas on what areas to look, using the suggestions from all of you. since i am not too familiar with the area out there i figured this would be a helpful in my search.
keep the info flowing, and to those that have posted I thank you.

There's a lot of established areas out there. I'm not sure if 350K will be able to cut it though.
Places like:
Fair Oaks
Carmichael
South Land Park
Older parts of Elk Grove (like my neighborhood)
More established parts of Folsom and Granite Bay.
fabulous 40's area
The problem is 350+ doesn't even come close to some of these established areas anymore. On top of that it may be hard to find a house of that size that can meet your expectations regarding caliber of neighborhood. Does that make it impossible? Absolutely not.
