if your going to make a car payment, might as well get a new one. He should wait for the 08 to come out so they will have the 2000-3000 off from the 07's. That way he can get into a TR for around 21-22K depending on the package. that is my best idea.
With the APR around 4.9 and with taxes and everything he will be around 24-25K and a payment of just over 500 a month.

I prefer the standard AC, as the auto ones (in my limited experience) are not all that consistent. Its good enough for me just to have AC.
Stereo will most definitely be tossed for something aftermarket within the the first 200 miles of owning the car for me...
So, in conclusion, the TR isn't such a bad deal for some folks.

Interior is the same, except for the seats. The TR seats are just as comfortable for me, I don't really lean my head back all that much anyhow, and the active head rest in the case of a crash is nice, but not sure how effective really...

so you bought a "used" car. stupid IMO. and if you plan on modding the car anyways the TR is the way to go. that 2k can buy some good parts.
