Jig's Up. :( Front License Plate Questions

Coming home from vacation in Graeagle last Thursday I got pulled over on 80 for not having a front license plate and was given a fix-it ticket. Was a little confused why I was getting pulled over at first cuz I was going like 71 and getting passed by a Hyundai Accent  but at least I didn’t get a double fix-it ticket for my front window tint or downpipe.

2 questions:

Does anyone have opinions on the Grimmspeed, Godspeed, or other tow-hook mounting brackets? The guy I bought my 92x from repainted the front bumper (salvage title which needed a new front bumper) and in the process smoothed out the dimples where the stock license plate screws would go so I don’t want to drill my front bumper. It would be nice to have the ability to remove the license plate later if I want to for a photoshoot or anything as well.

Second, if you removed the license plate, what would happen if you got pulled over a second time for not having a front plate? I don’t think it’s worth the headache or giving the CHP another reason to pull me over so I’ll prob just keep it on now that I got the ticket but I am curious what would happen if you got busted a second time for no front plate.

Windex your bumper and license plate and stick these bad boys on the back of your plate and bumper location.

You live in california, you are required to have a front plate. why drop 70-80 bucks for a relocator ? you still gonna have a front plate. if anything it doesn't take much for someone to just unscrew your relocator plate.

I've thought about velcro or something like that to adhere the plate - my concern would be damage to the paint w/ the strong adhesive..

What are you saying about someone unscrewing my relocator plate? Like someone could steal the plate?

velcro/double tape won't fly with most cops
I've tried that before, cop that I asked to write off on it laughed and told me to come back when the plate was actually secured with bolts/rivets/screws

I'd probably get the removable grimmspeed if I were you. you don't want to hack up a fresh bumper

I've got a Grimmspeed Relocation kit on my car for about 8 months+ now, haven't been pulled over yet. I daily drive my car A LOT and passed many cops, luckily I haven't been pulled over or have been questioned about it. I believe that having a front plate that's screwed on and secured, cops won't bug/question you about it.

Good to know – I will probably go the grimmspeed route then. I was thinking that the Velcro/suction cup/removable tape method probably wouldn’t fly w/ the CHP sign-off so that saves me the hassle of being denied by the CHP. Ha.

When I had the car inspected by the CHP when I bought it for the rebuild inspection (since it was a salvage title car) I just zip-tied the front license plate in the lower opening of the bumper but I hid the zip-ties behind some tube insulation so it looked legit enough to pass then but I’d rather not have to go to the CHP office more than I have to. Time to make a Grimmspeed purchase then!

Just bit the bullet and ordered a Grimmspeed tow-hook relocation kit. Will be legal soon enough.

+1 on this. You'll be happy with the quality if the parts and ut does the job well.

No attention from the po-po, at least not for your plate!
