Dang! Too bad this is too far away. We've got a MIG welder, almost brand new metal chop saw, heat gun, all the hand held metal cutting/grinding tools, etc. Maybe another time.

He has an STi, so no worries about GBOD's.

S-Squared used Lightweight Shockproof in my tranny. It seems to be working out well although I don't notice any improvement in shift quality. Then again, never had any issues using the factory gear lube. When I contacted Red Line over a year ago and asked if Lightweight Shockproof would be a good choice for the 5MT and they recommended their MTL gear lube for Subaru applications. Your transmission would probably be fine with either one and I wouldn't hesitate to use Lightweight Shockproof in my tranny again.
I'm not sure if Lightweight Shockproof went into my rear diff or not. Aaron would probably know, or be able to find out.

Lightweight shockproof usually isn't used for the rear diff, as it can kind of "curdle" in the LSD portion, especially on STi's. We use a normal 75/90 gear oil in the rear ends.
Shockproof is great fluid if you are aggressive witht he car or you're running high horsepower levels. It isn't quite as slick as normal 75/90, so the ultimate life of the tranny over 200,000 miles may be lsightly compromised, but the benefits to shifting and gear protection in terms of impact mean it will help a stock tranny deal with abuse better. We've seen rally cars with holes in the tranny (big, gaping holes), no fluid in the pan, and you can see (through the hole, lol) that shockproof still adheres to every contact surface in the case. That alone sells it for me.
