I NEED your help
You're garaunteed pay, I say take it and actively look really, really hard for a job. Might be easier if your not tired and you have time to look.
Good luck! You'll find something with a good resume and a positive attitude.

You can either take the offer and leave, or leave on your own free will. Either way, I wouldn't stay there. The company is obviously looking to terminate you, so not only will work be more pressure, but once they do terminate you, it won't look good on your resume or to future employers. I would probably take the offer but only if the resignation is reflected as a voluntary resignation. Leave on a good note (or as good a note as you can get).

What are the complaints based on?
Are they factual and/or with merit?
If so, take the $$ & run.
If not, stay on board, get fired, and sue for wrongful termination.

5 weeks deosnt seem like alot when your forced to find a new job, but that is a month and a week, plenty of time to get your resume everywhere imaginable. As long as you dont spend any money on your scoob during the 5 weeks you can make it by untill one of your prospects gets back to you.

ryball - A vendor at my company who worked for IBM came in to our office just after Christmas or so telling us a similar story to yours. He'd been offered a package and didn't take it.
He got fired 3 weeks ago.
I say take the package and look for something else... I hate my ****ing piece of ****ing **** job and my ****ing dumbass **** sucking, mother ****ing boss and his ***** of a ****ing wife with a passion ! I've been searching day and night for a new job for like 8 months, just to get out of the moronic ****hole in wich I work. Three months and nothing... until a couple weeks ago and something decent just kinda falls into my lap, granted, it's not the highest paying job, or even something I want to do for the next few years but it will hopefully keep my 150/90 BP down. Take what they offer you, look around and don't sweat it.

I was offered a very similar deal. I took it. I found a better job six weeks later.
There is a cap on the unemployment and I'm pretty sure your gonna hit it.

I think they want an answer Monday
They said they would "check back with me."
I don't think I can just leave without any prospectives in the pipe...

That being said, we all know you are extremely unhappy in your current situation and this may just be the catalyst to get you out. You run the risk of being unemployed for some time in this job market, but then again, you could find a job in 2 weeks and be money ahead. I'm sure you already have your resume plastered across Sacramento, but maybe a more directed approach will work better. What happened to your boss hooking you up with a recruiter?
In the end, the real question is: do you want to work for a company that screwed you over on the Sacramento position and obviously does not value you as a long term employee? After that question is answered (and I'll assume the answer is yes), it's a matter of some simple risk analysis: 5 weeks of pay with 100% free time to search for a job and then unemployment or 3-10 weeks of pay with 0% time for a job search and then unemployment. Don't forget all of the money you'll be saving in gas, parking, and BART.
Good luck and let us know if there is anything we can do.

Thanks everyone for all the support. Just to answer a few questions...
I am a Windows Sys Admin like everyone else and their mother. I've got enough saved, with the package, to swing 3 maybe 4 months. If my wife goes back to work full time during my job hunt and I do the Mr. Mom thing, then we would be okay for a couple of more months.
They won't fire me. They are offering a package to help me make a decision, because I get the impression they would like me to leave sooner than later, just because they know that commuting is killing me and I'm not doing good work for them. They need someone in there that can give 100% because they are added another remote office in Walnut Creek and upstairs thinks I should handle that too. My boss is pushing back and won't give it to me because he said he doesn't think it's fair and he doesn't think I can handle it.
My boss even admitted that it is impossible for him to expect anywhere near 100% from me just based on my commute alone, not to metion the length of time I've been doing it or supporting a family and raising a kid.
The more I talk to them, they aren't forcing me out. They are just giving me a little nudge like an impatient mother kicking her kids out to college.
"Go out there and do something with your life!!! Why in the hell are you still here?!?!?!"
I think I'm gonna take it... it's just scary as all ****ing hell...

With the IT market as bad as it is, do you have other skills that could be marketed into a different career? Are there other things you've always wanted to do?
