Unhappy I NEED your help

What should I do?

My boss just called with HR and he basically is pushing me out. He said he can offer me a package: 5 weeks pay + benifits until the end of May. Mutual termination agreement so I can get unemployment.

He said I can stay on but I run the risk of being terminated. Not by him but due to complaints from my office... I haven't had complaints for a year.

I think they want an answer Monday They said they would "check back with me."

I don't think I can just leave without any prospectives in the pipe...

Sound like they are making you an offer you can't refuse and if you do, that golden handshake may become a federal "pound you in the ***" shake with no such package in the near future.

You can either control the situation and take the deal, or stay on and hope they don't can you, which sounds like they are willing to make stuff up to see that you are gone. You can always file for arbitration and stuff if they wrongfully let you go, but I have been down that road and its sucks so freaking hard, you will spend every day for months fighting when you could be looking for a better job and enjoying the free money.

Best of luck sir!

Yea, you know what. After hearing what someone else said to me. It's happening for a reason. There is something better for you out over here.

Take the package and go.

Thats a tough call. If it were me, I'd probably take the package and get my pimp hand ready (er, Resume hand).

But, being that you have a family to support might make the decision a little tougher. Good luck to you dude.

Not at all... Your unemployment claim will come out of the account of where you were working I think six months ago, based on your wages six months ago. If you were making > 40k a year or so a that time, you are going to do pretty well. You should look into it and maybe that information can help you with your decision.

or more specifically...

and a last edit note... It was scary, but my 6 month on unemployment were the best days of my adult life and I was raising a 7 year old alone at the time. When you are out of a job, you find a way to get another one, even if it is doing something different than what you did before. I almost went into bar tending from IT crap but I found this job at zero hour.

Its not very much,

Years ago when I got laid off from HP I checked into unemployment and I found that it really wasnt going to help me much, although, if you plan right you could make it. I would say it really depends on what you do , I was a backup administrator and that being a rather specialized position I couldnt find anything. If you can check over the weekend and find that the market has positions that you can do for O.K. pay, even if its temp work it would probably be better than getting the screws from the upper management.

So I vote for take the pakage and go, I did it , now look at me (kidding)

it always works out in the end, just look at it like an oppertunity for bigger and better things.

You just need to weigh the guaranteed 5 weeks pay (bird in the hand) against the likelihood you'll be fired before then. If there's indications you'll be terminated for any reason, I'd be real inclined to take the severance package and maintain the good reference.

Your mortgage is $3 a month?

Seriously though, take the money and go while the offer is still good...

Take the money yo...don't stay there because they'll figure out an a-hole way to fire you before the 5 weeks just to be ******. Then you'll fight it out in court and lose months-years of time that you could've spent moving on. Obviously they are going in a different direction so you should take the package and make sure that they write you a GLOWING letter of reference for your trouble.

Take that letter...scan it...input some quotes into your resume.

Go looking for a new job closer to home (you're the guy that drives hella far to work right?) and spend some time with your family to get a new perspective on what you want to do with your career. Who knows...you might even be tempted to do private consulting or start a business! This may be the best thing that's ever happened to you!

More info,

Your base claim period would be Jan 1, 2004 - December 31, 2004 and you would most likely be eligible 1/2 of what you made during that period on a claim filed before July 1 of this year. So if you brought home $4000 a month in January of 2004 you will be receiving $2000 a month in unemployment benifits with a current claim. If you claim after June of this year, your base period moves from April - April instead of January - January of the previous year.

Hope that helps!
