If a car is tuned for 87 octane is dynoed, then 109(highest unleaded you can buy) octane is put in the car and redynoed... it will have absolutely zero performance gains

:rotfl: yes... that's my take on it.... If you need to know why... then I don't need to answer

Does a higher octane gasoline make my car run better or increase its horsepower?

You should use the octane level fuel for your car that is recommended by the manufacturer. Purchasing a higher octane fuel than the engine was designed to run on will not make it perform better or increase its horsepower.

If it's barely pinging yes highering octane might help, but from what he is saying... I don't think the pinging has anything to do involving improper octane
no one said anything about increasing horsepower. higher octane will help and ask any tuner if its a good safety margin. Less chance of knock, ping, and detonation.

I'm glad he drives a car where weather variables shift points and driver skills is ALWAYS the same... wish I could afford one of thhemz

Isn't there a rule about proving someone else's point for them?

OH EM GEE I got proof you make less!! One time with my civic(it was an auto) I raced it on 91 octane and ran a 17.6.... well I put in 86 octane and it ran a 17.599 that proves that the higher octane slows you down!

14.28 @ 94.5 february/march 91 octane, temp in the 50s

14.16@96.011 june, 91/100 mix, 110 outside

how do you like that variable?

bottom line, higher octane helped with the detonation, whether it made more power, impossible to know, but there are the times

sooooo in 4 months you couldn't have become a better driver?? you made up 1.5MPH and only gained .12 of a second off your time...

Sorry to pop your bubble... that has NOTHING to do with gas ratings... and that would imply you where pinging in 50 degree weather LOL
