This statement is full of fail.
I've been wasting my time in the girly thread.
Here's the deal with "wasting my time":
Customer calls me up with a specific goal/idea in mind.
We talk about it, they listen to my advice, make the purchase, go away happy.
They return X times/ yr & we build a relationship.
Sometimes they stray, but it's cool.
This is not a waste of my time.
Customer calls me up, not knowing anything except that he wants a BOV.
I educate them, give them some advice, and feel 'em out over what they do with it.
If I never hear back, it's cool, as we weren't a good match.
This is also, not a waste of my time.
What I get really ****ing chapped about are the internet-educated ****tards that know everything; which turbo is "the best", which exhaust is "the best", etc.
Like they ****ing know what's "best", that they have spent literally days on a dyno testing parts, that they even know how to read a compressor map(and understand it).
When asked, I'll still provide a quote. If they complain about it or ask for a "better price", I offer that they go somewhere else.
Why?
Because my quality costs you money.
If you want your car project done correctly, you'll pay for it.
And you'll enjoy paying for it, because when you leave, you'll be happy.
Does this mean I don't make mistakes?
No, I make plenty of them...just ask dz about his tranny dipstick that I forgot to re-insert.
But I step up & make it right.
I have seen what cheap parts installed from a cheap shop do; they cost more to fix, to make right, than if the customer would have just bought quality parts in the beginning.
I understand that money doesn't grow on trees.
And if all your budget allows for is used parts, fine, buy 'em.
I will even install them for you.
But please refrain from complaining to me if the part does not meet your expectations.

I walked out, and threw my business card on the manager's desk. I told him to call me when he was ready to discipline his salesperson into listening to what the buyer has to say rather than try to create his own agenda.
Hehe, I got a call about an hour later, and they went with alllll muy demands. Haha
quickest way to either squelch that **** or figure out whether this guy really wants to sell the car or not is to take off.

He said he reserves the right, not that he does every time. He's probably saying "bring ****ty parts that take a lot more work/time to install and I will have to charge more." He didn't quote an hourly rate, so it's not like he's saying "buy my stuff and I install @ 65/hr, bring ebay parts and I install at $80/hr", he's saying that if he runs in to fitment issues with your customer supplied parts (whether used, crappy quality, both, etc), it may cost $80 * .2 or $175 * .2 depending on the service, as fitment issues take time to sort out.

I apologize for dumb salesmen. I never said this here, but if you need a vehicle from Subaru I am the fleet director at Autowest Mazda Subaru. Alicia Hill and I work together and if you don't want uneducated, stupid, sales people, PM me before you come in. Product knowledge IS very important if you are a salesman, however most sales people aren't smart. I apologize if my dealership did not serve you properly. If you give me a name I will make sure to "educate" that person.

I didn't catch his name, I was the only one that came in today and looked at it..from what they said. I did meet the bigger (?sales manager?), erik?.
The dealership is fine, the salesman...just bugged me a bit. Granted--I dont exactly look like someone that would buy it or even know about it. But... No worries.
truth.
