How's Your 401(k)?

Got my statement a few days ago and the balance is less than 1/2 of what it was 1 yr ago.

And as a lovely parting gift, the balance is less than what I contributed to the account.

Mine is down to about 70% of what I actually put in to it. My "hope" is that since I am still contributing at deflated market prices and things will "change" in the long run.

Yeah, I am not worried. I am down to about 80%, but I am still contributing. By the time I take money out everything will hopefully be fine.

I'm down about 60% as well at this point. I wonder if just cashing out and paying down debt would be better

At this time I consider myself fortunate. My wife has been taking all of my money for many years. Enough to hinder my contributions to a retirement savings account. I've lost nothing. 0-0=0

Well I haven't 'lost' anything becasue I haven't sold. But the current value is about half of what it was. No biggie. It will go up long before I retire. The good thing is that I continue to contribute. I view it as a huge sale. My current contributions are buying at a discount and this will put me ahead in the future after the rebound.

The best for me would be for it to drop even lower and stay in the crapper up until the day I start withdrawing. Then have it explode.

So I'm picking the lost my **** option but with the above mentioned thoughts.

If you are pro-Obama and government, your 401k is actually screwed for a long time.

I am a democrat, voted for Obama, but I did not agree with government spending/taking over things, loaning out money to failed adventures of corporations.

We need is to have had the free market re-align itself. They should have let these huge companies crash and burn for their risky investments. The more patches he tries to restart the economy with, the worse of a depression that is inevitably going to hit. Either way, it's coming and instead of letting it come now, he's going to make it even worse, and deeper, and longer than anything we've ever seen.

What do my polictal views have to do with how the market is going to perform?

Just a rhetorical question.
