Highway Patrol initiates operation "Dragnet"
I seen a report on Channel 3 News today in which the Highway Patrol is pulling over cars that look or sound modded. They claim for preventive street racing measures. They call this operation "Dragnet". Anyone have any insight into this? Just wonderin if its only in certain areas of Sac or what.

The News Crew was asking him if he street raced, what he thought of it, why he thought people do it, and if he knew anyone who did it. Pretty much this is another scare tactic to freak people out.

That sucks. I found the news link. http://www.kcra.com/news/5556904/detail.html
I think they showed him getting pulled in the video, normal driving, clean car, nothing exotic, sucks how they pick em' out.

I almost got stopped by this yesterday. CHP with KCRA reporter and cameraman in the car made a quick turn and whipped right in behind me at a stop light. I assumed it was for my tint. For some reason, after making a right turn without signaling and then making an illegal u-turn to stop me, he didn't pull me over
Maybe my car wasn't "modded enough" to make the news.
wagon + stock exhaust (and a quiet one if I decide to do a TBE) = win

Well it appears to be random, no major stings goin on or anything. Betcha they don't pull over the muscle cars though. Probably not even audi's or bmw's. Whatever.

1.) Tint
2.) No front plate
3.) Modified Engine (Cop popped the hood and saw n2o lines)
4.) Noise pollution (exhaust)
5.) No Cats
6.) Modified exhaust
7.) Lowered too low
8.) Gauges obstructing view

Wow. I retract my statement then. Gauges obstructing view? View of road or instrument cluster? Did he have a-pillar style or what? That sucks how nitpicky they can be, and it all depends on who gives the ticket.

Is it me or this this profiling. And even if it isn't i'd imagine it's still could be challenged in court as a violation of the defendants 14th amendment rights.

i'm glad i did that warrantied, street legal, 280hp mod last year... it even drives like it's stock
it is profiling, but if what they are profiling is illegal anyway (front plates, excessively loud exhaust, too low, blue lighted windshield washers, etc...) than i don't really see an issue with it. i've been pulled over for suspected mods and never got a ticket. roseville pd got me, popped the hood, poked around, and wrote me up for 3mph over the limit because they couldn't tell the difference between a vf34 and a td04.
non-polished stainless exhaust and black IC hoses go a long way.

What makes a stock car not street legal? Like the above post, some mods are okay. I know this can lead to numerous answers and topics, but is there a general rule of thumb?
