I disagree. The other vacuum I have is a $100 bagless model. It's ok, however after using it for about a year or more you can tell it's losing a bit of its effectiveness. Additionally, the attachments on it don't function all that great, the HEPA filter and can are a pain in the *** to clean and empty.

After cleaning the floors with the Dyson, there is a noticeable difference. The attachments that came with it, one of which is specifically designed for picking up animal fur works like magic. I used it on the cat tree and the cat tree looks damn near new. The Dyson is quieter than our other vacuum and the can is easy as hell to empty. Also, the filters require less frequent cleaning and are easier to clean when have to do it.

At this point, I'm sold on the Dyson. We'll see how it does over time.
That is exactly what I was curious to know. We have a $65 dollar bag-less vacuum from Eureka. It has a Hepa filter that needs to replaced every six months (or when dirty when you read the fine print). I think the problem with any home appliance is they are not as "maintenance free" as we wish they all would be. You telling me that your $100 dollar vacuum lost is effectiveness is worth nothing unless you can tell me that you changed the belts on it by the manufacturers schedule and you "inspected and replaced any filters that were clogged". Matt, this is not to say you didn't but I guess what I am trying to point out is that appliances are made out to seem trouble free and should last a long time but most people seldom follow the instructions. Our cheap vacuum has a total of three replaceable filters (one pre canister, one post canister and the end Hepa filter...reminds me of damn catalytic converters on my WRX lol). If one doesn't inspect and replace these filters as per scheduled the vacuum will lose effectiveness and stress/ruin the motor. In addition our belt is supposed to be replaced yearly.

So, in conclusion, many people buy a product and are convinced it doesn't work after a while and they buy a more expensive model but they have no regard for properly caring for it. I hope the Dyson is everything it promises (but I suspect it is susceptible to the same problems as your $100 vacuum if not cared for i.e. replacing belts and cleaning the cleanable hepa filter often). Our $65 dollar vacuum still works great (and I replace the parts as per the schedule) and I have an attachment for upholstery that cleans our cat's little carpet tower with great effectiveness.

PS: Have you read the literature from Dyson? Go into a store and read the little tags attached to the demo model. That guy seems pretty butt hurt about being turned down by the big vacuum manufacturers and his whole story is very "angry". Sort of funny though.

I'm sure you're right, Ken. I mean, your $65 vaccum is likely the gold standard in vacuum cleaners, outperforming all others.

Seriously. I don't have side by side tests or some wacky thing like that. Our vaccum is maintained. I'm telling you, as a person who has used both a Dyson and a cheaper bagless, that the difference, even from the first time either unit was used, is incredible. The Dyson picks up more and does so easier.

time and time again others have shown how much better the dyson is over any other vacuum. I will guarantee you can take any vacuum you want, and then go over the same area you just hit with the so-called best vacuum evar, and the dyson will pick up what the other vacuums have left behind.

I think you misunderstood me. I was hardly saying that my $65 dollar vacum was better than anything. I tend to mistrust the "miracle product" however I always find myself attracted to them. I was just looking for your comments on the Dyson. If you read my overly long paragraph I mentioned that I wasn't implying you didn't care for your vacum. My point in all of this is that I am really curious how well the Dyson really does. My girlfriend has extreme allergies to our cat and to dust (the cat is too cute to give up) and I always find myself wanting to try the Dyson however I wonder if it works any better than mine, you see? I am trying to understand the difference in price and if it is legitimate. So in my case, I have seen no decrease in performance in my vacum cleaner over the year I have owned it (but I owe this only to the fact that I intentionally upkeep the product). I think it works pretty well but I am always looking for something better. I hope I made more sense now. Eh, I don't know anymore.
