Terri took the LGT in to Autowest for an annoying hum between 30mph and 70mph.
My diagnosis was correct. Left rear wheel bearing failure at 22,000 miles.
It should be fixed in about an hour.
rant: why if you have an appointment for 8:00AM does the dealership wait until 2:00PM to test drive the car and diagnose the problem?

1) You bring your car in for a diagnosis
2) The service advisor asks if they can keep the car all day
3) You agree and find a way home or to work
4) While you're gone, people come in to have basic maintenence done, and maybe decide to just "wait while it's being worked on"
5) Since a service is usually a given for the time involved, while a diagnosis could be simple or it could drag on for hours, the basic stuff gets done first
6) Once all the impatient foot-tappers in the customer lounge are out of the way, then the cars in need of diagnosis are tended to (usually after lunch)
(Keep in mind, some techs are tied up doing repair work from the day before, so they might not be able to help out on oil changes and stuff)
I was a Subie service advisor at a now-defunct dealer in SoCal 3 years ago, and I'm not necessarily saying what happens is right, but just that's the way it happens.
However, if you want a prompt diagnosis before lunch, you could always decide to be one of those foot-tappers sucking down free coffee in the customer lounge.

I FUBAR'd a rear strut one time off roading. The problem was that it was spring so the rain had screwed up the road and it hadnt been used enough to level out again. I was going a little faster than normal and a couple of big ruts snuck up on me. Gave me an excuse to get sti struts though

so for service you should be a foot-tapper until you see them take the car out to test drive it, and then go look at all the new cars so you arent le bored?

Wait around for the diagnosis. If the repair won't take very long, stick around and let them finish up the car. If it's going to take longer than you're willing to wait, either catch a ride somewhere or ask about a loaner car/rental.
