Paying off your debt is a good long term idea, it helps you get other loans or helps you to buy a house, you won't get any kind of mortgage if you have any significant outstanding debt. That's why I did what I did.

oh, talked to my dad and he said i can get back on their insurance policy. he said the reason he wanted me to get my own was because i was getting a "fast" car and wanted to track it and he didnt want to risk him and my mom losing their policy because of me being a dumbass. so i should be golden on insurance costs.
we went to carmax to look at trucks too, im pretty much dead set on a Ranger instead of a tacoma or frontier, etc. we'll see what happens.
oh, and the dent looks MUCH better. like i actually had to look hard to find it, so im very happy. and they only charged $75 instead of the $150 we were quoted.
